Degel Software Picked for ICQ Development

Brings Instant Messaging to Cutting Edge Mobile Phones

September 10, 2002- Degel Software Ltd. (www.degel.com) is delighted to announce that it has been selected by ICQ (www.icq.com) to develop an instant messaging (IM) client compatible with several next generation cell phones. ICQ popularized IM and continues to produce the widely popular ICQ client, the most common version of which runs on personal computers (PCs). Versions have been created for many other operating systems and devices. Degel's work brings the power of IM to the mobile phone, letting users stay in touch wherever they are.

Users are able to send and receive real-time messages, to and from any member of the huge Instant Messaging community of tens of millions of members. Furthermore, users can search for friends who are available and communicate with them instantly.

"Mobile devices are the future of personal computing," explained David Goldfarb, Degel's president. "We are pleased that ICQ and AOL share our vision and we're delighted to build the next generation of their software." ICQ enlisted Degel to write code for several Siemens, Sendo, Nokia, Motorola and Ericsson phones.

Degel Software, Ltd. is a boutique shop that offers a full range of high quality programming services. Degel has been previously enlisted by ICQ to create versions of their client for several phones. Degel has developed IM clients for devices running Symbian versions 5, 6, and 6.1 and the Java J2ME operating system. Earlier this year, Degel developed IM for the Nokia 9210 / 9290 / 9210i Communicator series mobile phones and the Siemens M50 J2ME-based handset. The Nokia 9210 Communicator is Nokia's first Symbian phone.

"The M50 is all about making communication fun and expressive - bringing new dimensions to consumers' favorite services," explained Peter Zapf, President of Mobile Phones within the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group. "Java technology, and all the possibilities it presents, has traditionally been reserved for the top end of the market but we believe everyone should benefit from it. The Siemens M50 will be an invaluable and fun companion."

A software developer-centric company from the top down, Degel's team is comprised of only top software developers trained at the premier technology colleges worldwide. Degel produces The GUI Bits, a periodic digest of what's new based on information gleaned from industry sources, the web, trade journals, conferences and seminars.
